What is Weidian, and why did PandaBuy sheets use it?

PandaBuy sheets were full of Weidian because that's where many small sellers list: a Weidian shop is quick to open and sells easily through WeChat. For a buyer abroad that has two consequences:

The shop link matters because sheets sometimes link to a whole store rather than an item; those rows need someone to open the shop and find the piece. Item links are what converters and agents need.

Verdict: Weidian is a domestic platform. An agent is the only way to buy from it abroad.

Getting the Weidian itemID from a PandaBuy link

Four Weidian quirks to know

Weidian listings have quirks worth knowing when you order through any agent:

  • Many listings bundle styles. A name like '[12 styles]' means one listing with several variants; pick the right one in the agent's options.
  • Sizes are often Chinese. Check the seller's chart in centimetres; the size converter helps.
  • Sellers relist. A dead link may mean the item moved to a new listing in the same shop; ask the agent to check the shop.
  • Domestic shipping is separate. The seller charges a few yuan to send the item to the agent's warehouse.

Verdict: Pick the variant carefully, size in centimetres, and expect a small domestic shipping charge.

When a Weidian row is dead

Because so much of the community's buying runs through Weidian, its listing pages have conventions worth knowing. Titles often include a style count, such as '[38 styles]', which means one listing covers many variants; prices may vary by variant, so the headline price is the lowest, not necessarily yours. Many sellers also post a size chart image rather than text, which the agent can translate on request.

Weidian shops also come and go faster than Taobao stores. If a converted link from an old PandaBuy sheet opens an empty page, try these in order:

  1. Open the seller's shop page (the agent can find it from the item ID) and search for the product name.
  2. Search the item's photo on the agent's image search, if it has one.
  3. Look for the same item in a newer community sheet or in our catalog table, which lists live Weidian IDs.

Finally, a note on payments: you never pay Weidian directly from abroad. Your agent pays the seller in yuan. If anyone asks you to pay a Weidian seller by bank transfer or through a personal account, treat it as the same warning sign as a Yupoo seller asking for direct payment.

What is a Weidian itemID?

It's the number after itemID= in a Weidian link, normally ten digits, and it identifies one listing. The clean format is weidian.com/item.html?itemID= followed by that number, which any agent's search box accepts. Shop links such as shop.weidian.com point to a whole store instead and need someone to find the piece. Save the itemID for every row you care about.

Is Weidian part of Alibaba?

No. Weidian is run by Koudai, a Beijing company, and its 2014 launch was followed by a funding round led by Tencent, a separate group from Alibaba. Taobao and 1688, by contrast, are both Alibaba platforms. The difference doesn't change how you buy: Weidian ships only domestically, like Taobao, so overseas buyers order through an agent.

Can I search Weidian in English?

Not well. Weidian's own search works best in Chinese, and many sellers post size charts as images rather than text. Most overseas buyers find items through spreadsheets, an agent's image search, or a catalogue of 10-digit itemIDs instead. Once you have the ID, paste it into the agent's search box. Ask the agent to translate a Chinese size chart if you need it.

Why does a Weidian price differ from the one on a sheet?

Prices move. Sellers adjust them, run discounts, and sometimes reuse a listing for a different item. Listings with a style count like '[38 styles]' also show the lowest variant price as the headline, so your chosen variant may cost more. Before paying, compare the yuan price and photos on the live listing with the sheet, and trust the live listing.

Does Weidian ship outside China?

No. Weidian sellers ship only inside China, which is why PandaBuy sat between them and overseas buyers. Today an agent fills that role: the seller charges a few yuan to send the item to the agent's warehouse, the agent checks it, and then it travels on with your other items. Never pay a Weidian seller by bank transfer; always pay through the agent.

Do Weidian links expire?

The link format itself doesn't expire, but listings disappear, sell out or get moved, and Weidian shops come and go faster than Taobao stores.
